ZeenX is a free navigation app for Iraq. Here is exactly what we use, why, and how to turn it off.

Android version

Android uses your location to display your position and calculate directions. During navigation, a foreground service with an ongoing notification keeps location and spoken directions working when the screen is off; end navigation to stop it. Your profile name, saved and recent places, preferences and offline maps stay on your device. Search queries and nearby coordinates go to Photon; route endpoints go to ZeenX, nearby searches to Photon or Overpass, weather to Open-Meteo, and map requests to OpenFreeMap. These services receive your IP address. Road reports and votes go to ZeenX with a random reporting ID. Optional photos are resized and re-encoded without GPS or camera metadata. Failed submissions stay on your phone for manual retry or discard; reports older than 15 minutes cannot be resent. In Road reports, the delete-data action requests server deletion and blocks new report and AI submissions until deletion succeeds. AI receives your question, recent chat and reporting ID, plus approximate location only if you choose to include it. Speech input uses your phone’s speech service. Optional live trip links show your location, destination and arrival estimate to anyone with the link; updates run while the app is open, can be stopped in the app, and links expire after four hours. Android does not upload driving samples, your local name or automatic usage analytics. Manage permissions in Android Settings › Apps › ZeenX › Permissions. The sections below describe the wider iOS feature set.

Short version (iOS)

ZeenX is free. No ads, no selling your data, no tracking across other apps. We don't need your email, phone number or Apple ID. What we collect is tied only to a random, hashed device ID, and it is used for one thing: making navigation in Iraq better for everyone.

Location

ZeenX needs your location to show where you are, plan routes, give turn-by-turn directions, warn you about cameras, bumps and reports ahead, and work on CarPlay. While navigating, ZeenX may use location in the background so directions and warnings keep working with the screen off. You can change location access any time in iPhone Settings › ZeenX › Location.

Map learning: live traffic (on by default)

Like other navigation apps, ZeenX learns from drivers to show live traffic. While you drive, the app sends anonymous speed samples, long stops, trip times, your driven path, spots where you drive but the map has no road, and places where you leave the suggested route or turn back. This is how ZeenX shows busy roads (yellow and red lines), better arrival times, and finds new or closed roads. It is tied only to a hashed device ID, never your name. Speed samples are deleted after 30 days, stops and trip times after 60 days, driven route shapes after 120 days. You can turn it off any time in Settings › Privacy › “Share anonymous drives to improve the map”.

Routes and search

To find places and plan routes, the app sends what you search for and your start and end points to our servers. Searches (the text, the area and the result you picked) are kept for up to 90 days, without your name, to improve search results. Recent searches and saved places on your phone stay on your phone.

Road reports and votes

When you report something (traffic, accident, police, checkpoint, camera, bump…) we store its type, place and time so other drivers see it. Answers to “Still there?” are stored the same way. Reports expire on their own (for example traffic after 45 minutes). Report history and votes are deleted after 90 days. Reports are never shown with your name.

Photos

Only if you choose to add a photo to a report, it is uploaded and shown with that report, and deleted when the report expires. ZeenX asks for camera access only when you take a photo.

ZeenX AI and voice

Questions you type or say to ZeenX AI are sent to our server with your approximate location so answers are nearby. Voice is turned into text by Apple speech recognition. ZeenX asks for the microphone only the first time you talk to it. Questions are not used for ads and not linked to your name.

Trip sharing

If you share a trip, your live position and arrival time go to a temporary link until the trip ends or you stop sharing, then it is deleted (at the latest after 4 hours). Only people you send the link to can see it.

Your name

The name you enter is stored with your device ID to show in your profile, with feedback you send, and in our team's app activity view. You can change it or delete it any time.

App usage and app health

The app sends simple counts tied to a hashed device ID: when it is opened, whether the app is in use right now, CarPlay use, km driven with navigation, app version and language. If the app crashes or a request fails, a technical report (device model, iOS version, app version, what failed) is sent so we can fix it. Usage counts are kept up to 400 days, health and crash reports up to 90 days.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we store your device's push token and language with a hashed device ID to send road alerts, weather warnings for your city, app updates and a thank-you when drivers confirm your report. Turn them off any time in iPhone Settings.

Map problems, potholes and lanes

If you report a map problem we store its type, place, time and any note you write. The phone's motion sensor can notice sharp bumps while you drive and send the spot; a pothole is shown only after several phones report it (deleted after 60 days, can be turned off in Settings). Feedback on lane guidance is stored the same way.

Feedback

If you send feedback we store your message, name, app version, language and any attachments so we can reply and fix the issue.

Who we share with

We do not sell or rent data, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. Our servers run on Cloudflare. Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, weather from public weather services, and ZeenX AI and voice use AI services that only receive the question and approximate area. We may share information only if the law requires it.

Security

Everything is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Device IDs are hashed before they are stored. Keys and access to our servers are limited to the ZeenX team.

Delete your data

In the app: Settings › Privacy › Clear all my data erases what is on your phone and asks our server to delete what is linked to your device. You can also email us and we will delete it. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone.

We keep improving

ZeenX is new and we update it often. When we add features (like sharing your location with friends) or change what data we use, we update this page first and change the date at the top. Big changes will also be shown in the app.

Children

ZeenX is not directed at children under 13.
